Synopsis and Plot Summary
In the early 1990s, Du Xiangdong, a man with dreams of becoming a detective but stuck working at a detention center, notices something unusual about two inmates—Xu Wenguo and Yao Binbin.
As Du Xiangdong (Qin Hao) investigates further, he finds himself at odds with his old police academy friend, Zhang Xiangyang (Liu Xiaohai), who sees the case differently. Things take a dramatic turn during a prisoner transfer, when the two inmates escape. Although Du Xiangdong manages to catch Yao Binbin (Shi Pengyuan), Xu Wenguo (Han Geng) vanishes without a trace. What follows is a relentless manhunt spanning over two decades. The chase seeps into every corner of their lives, affecting families, friendships, and personal choices.
