Synopsis and Plot Summary
In a small Jiangnan town in the mid-1990s, the murder of an old woman along the river sparks a bizarre investigation led by Ma Zhe.
As he digs deeper into the murder case, criminal police Ma Zhe (Zhu Yilong) becomes entangled in a web of absurdity and unease, unable to distinguish between reality and fantasy. With each suspect eliminated, he discovers the lunatic (Kang Chunlei) adopted by the victim to be the suspect, seemingly closing the case. However, lingering doubts compel Ma Zhe to unravel the mystery further. The madman's escape from the asylum reignites a series of crimes, plunging Ma Zhe into a psychological spiral.
