Synopsis and Plot Summary

New Vanity Fair tells the story of a popular traffic star who through the guidance of a veteran actor learns to overcome the temptations of fame and fortune to finally become a professional artist.

Ding Kemang (Wu Gang) is highly-esteemed in the world of theater and student Song Yang (Huang Zitao) is a smash hit traffic star. In order to guarantee a solid box office, Song Yang is invited to star in the play "Father and Son." Although Song Yang is rash and headstrong, his experience allows him to learn and improve after being in awe of the performing arts. At the start, Ding Kemang's daughter, Ding Momo (Sun Yi), did not think highly of Song Yang, yet she gradually accepts and acknowledges him.

Ding Kemang's wife, Jiang Ye (Liu Bei), has a strong and domineering personality. As husband and wife, their relationship has always had cracks due to difference in values that push them to the brink of divorce. Two generations of actors encounter different crises in their lives and continue evolving. While there are ups and downs in the process, everyone is working for the day they will shine on stage. Song Yang who used to be a traffic star with only good looks but no acting skills completes his transformation into an outstanding actor.
