Synopsis and Plot Summary

It follows the massive changes during the 1990s, a great era when everyone is vying for the top. A Bao tells a rags to riches story as he becomes the wealthy executive Bao. He has tasted success and failure to become a legend for the children of Shanghai. There's been magnificent times, different women that have left an impact on him, ups and downs and the truth of an era.

Fun Facts

It was shot in Shanghai and the cast spoke in Shanghainese except for Xin Zhilei''s character who's not local.
It is critically-acclaimed film director Wong Kar-Wai's first time directing a drama.
It reunites Hu Ge and Tiffany Tang Yan in their fourth project together since Chinese Paladin 3, Unbeatable and Xuan Yuan Sword: Scar of the Sky.
It is Hu Ge's comeback drama since returning from his acting hiatus in 2017 as he's been acting in films.
Filming began in September 2020.
In leaked photos, it was revealed on January 25, 2022 that two years of filming has been completed.
The cast said they would complete filming but be called back again such that shooting for the drama took 3 years.
There were jokes that because it's a Wong Kar Wai production, post-production will probably take another 3 years with some saying "How old will Hu Ge be by the time it premieres?"
