Synopsis and Plot Summary
How did Xu Haifeng go from a fertilizer salesman to become the first Chinese national to win a gold medal at the Summer Olympics?
Back in 1979, Xu Haifeng (Li Dongxue) was an educated youth in the countryside. Armed with an amateur air gun, he participated in the Anhui provincial games and won the championship. However, the provincial team did not accept him because he was already over the national age limit. Three years later, Xu Haifeng who already had a job at the cooperative participated in the Anhui provincial games and won the championship once more but he was still over the age requirement. When coach Wu Quanqing (Cong Lin) unexpectedly arrived with a secondment notice, Xu Haifeng has to make a difficult decision about whether to go or not.
