Synopsis and Plot Summary

A story about three generations and five families fighting for the new locomotive industry in China.

Qi Xiangqian (Wang Qianyuan), a demobilized soldier who has returned from the North Korean battlefield, is determined to build the first steam locomotive in China. He voluntarily chose to become a worker, winning not only success in his career but also the admiration of Bai Ruoxue (Tong Lei) who is the star of her performance troupe.

Qiu Shi (Zhang Duo), an intellectual who was once Qi Xiangqian's enemy before becoming his friend, lays out his plans for the construction in Dabeichang. Learning from the old and experienced workers, they strive hard along with everyone at the factory to build the first steam locomotive. The women of Dabeichang make their lives blossom and take root. Many years later, their children that include Kong Weixin, Fendou, etc., succeed their parents' long-cherished wish to add vitality to a new era of China's high-speed rail.

The booting ceremony was held on September 28, 2019.
Filming was temporarily postponed due to the coronavirus epidemic in China and wrapped on April 18, 2020 after 151 days.
