Synopsis and Plot Summary

The fates of a cold and lonesome royal and a righteous and passionate princess have become intertwined due to one encounter. The two grow together in their mission to protect the Kong Sang Continent.

Shi Ying (Xiao Zhan) is a prince of Kong Sang while Zhu Yan (Ren Min) is a princess of the red clan. Due to a series of circumstances, they accompany each other for three years as teacher and disciple and develop unspoken feelings for each other. With Kong Sang on the brink of ruin, Shi Ying mistakes Zhi Yuan, a merman who has stayed by Zhu Yan all her life, for the Sea King and seals him away. In order to avenge Zhi Yuan, Zhu Yan stabs Shi Ying with the jade bone. An ominous prophecy turns into reality, yet everything has changed early on.

It is the prequel to Cang Yue's Mirror series.
Filming began on March 29, 2021.
Female lead Zhu Yan is the title character in the novel although the drama has changed the title to "Yu Gu Yao."
The Chinese title Yu Gu Yao translates to Jade Bone.
It was announced on August 4, 2021 that filming has wrapped.
In the novel, Zhu Yan took care of Su Mo (protagonist of Mirror: A Tale of Twin Cities) when he was young. Bai Ying is also Shi Ying and Zhu Yan's descendant.
It made a surprise premiere without any promotions.
The series held its fast track event on July 17, 2023 where subscribers can view the finale in advance.
It became the fastest to hit 27,000 heat index on Tencent just 5 hours after premiere.
On July 12, it was announced that the show hit 28,000 on the Tencent heat index 10 days after premiere.
