Synopsis and Plot Summary
An adventure begins as antique shop owner Xu Yuan looks into the truth behind the Mingtang Budda that was passed down from the time of Wu Zetian during the Tang Dynasty.
Japanese national Kido Kana (Matsumine Lilie) has agreed to return a Tang Dynasty relic to China on the condition that a descendant of the Xu family, which hails from the esteemed "Wu Mai" organization in the cultural world, comes forward to accept it. However, 'Wu Mai" has long fallen and the Xu family descendants are nowhere to be found.
Due to the gravity of the situation, Huang Yanyan (Xin Zhilei), the granddaughter of the current head of "Wu Mai" reveals that she has a way to contact the Xu family. Many years ago, Xu patriarch Xu Yicheng who sent the Buddha relic to Japan was labelled a traitor to his country. Nowadays, his grandson Xu Yuan (Lei Jiayin) has become a man with no ambition. He minds his own business as an owner of a small shop although he is barely able to make ends meet from the money he makes selling electronic appliances.
Xu Yuan lost his mother in a fire when he was young while his father Xu Heping has kept him at arm's length since the accident. Xu Yuan also has to bear the infamy of being a traitor's descendant. Nonetheless, Huang Yanyan manages to convince Xu Yuan to become involved with "Wu Mai" once more. In the process, Xu Yuan surmises that the Buddha relic in question is a counterfeit.
Xu Yuan has habitually chosen a muddled life of escaping his responsibilities. However, faced with Huang Yanyan's call for help, his father Xu Heping's mysterious death, mounting pressure from Yao Buran (Li Xian) of "Wu Mai", his grandfather's old friend Fu Gui (Ge You) and the mysterious Lao Chaofeng (Qin Yan), Xu Yuan has no choice but to navigate the various forces at play and do everything that it takes to get to the bottom of the truth.
