Synopsis and Plot Summary
It tells the story of ordinary people amidst the 70 years since the founding of the People's Republic of China.
The Eve 前夜
On the eve of the founding of the People’s Republic of China on October 1, 1949, Lin Zhiyuan (Huang Bo) races against all odds to ensure the smooth raising of the national flag at the founding ceremony.
Passing by 相遇
In 1964, due to the sensitivity and confidentiality requirements around their work in atomic bomb research, colleagues go about their daily tasks without knowing each other's names. Gao Yuan (Zhang Yi) who works in national defence has not contacted his family for three years and finally leaves his job due to illness. He crosses paths with his former lover Fang Min (Ren Suxi) on the bus but they can only pass by each other.
The Champion 夺冠
On August 8, 1984, the Chinese women's volleyball team won the Olympic Games to become the first in the world to win three consecutive championships. At the same time, in the small alleyways of Shanghai, black and white television sets are lined up for neighbours to gather around in excitement as their cheers penetrate the sky.
Going Home 回归
On July 1, 1997, Hong Kong was returned to the motherland. In order to ensure that the flag is flying over Hong Kong, flag-raiser Zhu Tao (Du Jiang) diligently performs his duty, policewoman Lian Jie (Kara Hui) takes charge of public safety, diplomat An Wenbin (Wang Luoyong) engages in negotiations with the British, watchmaker Hua Ge (Simon Yam) ensures that the time is accurate and aligned. Each person has different roles but one common goal to raise the Five-starred Red Flag without fail at 0:00 on July 1.
Hello Beijing 北京你好
By chance, taxi driver Zhang Beijing (Ge You) acquires a ticket to the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics. However, he never expected it to lead to a series of outrageous incidents. He meets a Sichuan boy (Wang Dong) who quietly uses 800 yuan in exchange for the ticket to the ceremony.
The Guiding Star 白昼流星
The lives of a pair of young wanderers Wodele (Liu Haoran) and Hazhabu (Chen Feiyu) begin to change after they meet Lao Li (Tian Zhuangzhuang), a former director of the Poverty Alleviation Office who has already retired from his post. Under his guidance, they witness the historic landing of the Shenzhou 11 spacecraft on November 18, 2016.
One for All 护航
Lü Xiaoran (Song Jia) is the best female pilot in the Chinese Air Force. She is suddenly notified to withdraw from the parade commemorating the 70th anniversary of the victory over Japan on September 3, 2015 and was relegated as a substitute. When a fighter plane taxied and took off, a "ready to fly" Lü Xiaoran who witnessed this glorious moment also fulfilled her mission.
