Synopsis and Plot Summary

Qiu Dongna grew up in a single-parent household. She is diligent, brilliant and hopes to provide her mother a better life through her own hard work. The story follows a mother and daughter pair who rely on their wisdom to resolve many difficulties despite being broke. In the workplace, Qiu Dongna meets an unusual boss.

Life after graduation has not been easy for Qiu Dongna (Wen Qi). Stumbling along in her non-existent career, she had survived being picked on by her colleagues and being setup by her own boss. Now unemployed, she has no choice but to enter the company that she's been trying to avoid -- an accounting firm co-founded by an old acquaintance Gu Fei (Roy Chiu) and her first love Bai Shichu's (Tan Quan) stepmother Cheng Fanyang (Annie Liu).

Gu Fei describes Qiu Dongna as a 'handy knife'. She doesn't bow down to a challenge and completes seemingly impossible tasks. She also becomes weary of having a boss like Gu Fei who is unconventional in many ways. In spite of the inequality brought by the income gap between the rich and poor and Cheng Fanyang's doubts towards her, Qiu Dongna draws strength from her mother Qiu Xiaoxia (Liu Mintao) as she faces problems in work and in life.
