Synopsis and Plot Summary

A story that follows five inidividuals after the country's defeat during the First Sino-Japanese War. These aspiring youths rise up to the challenge of saving the nation and raising the flag of revolution to overthrow the existing order and usher in a new era in the history of China.

The nation has been left vastly devastated after the Boxer Rebellion. Aristocratic youth Liang Xiang (Li Xian), revolutionary Yang Kaizhi (Wei Daxun) and soldier Li Renjun (Zhou You) are among the first batch of progressive youths to go to Japan for further studies.

Aboard the cruise ship, they run into Yu Tianbai (Zhu Yawen) who has been exiled for his part in the revolution and Qiu Hong (Chun Xia). Their meeting marks the day the fates of these five people become endlessly intertwined. In Tokyo where they are exposed to different ideals, the five take an oath, pursue love and strive to revitalize China.

After returning home, Liang Xiang looks for ways to help the country prosper and strengthen the army, yet he is trapped in a power struggle and left without a stage to expound his enthusiastic ambitions. As he grows to recognize the need for changing times, he rises in seclusion. Yang Kaizhi is hailed a hero of the border after defeating imperial Japan in battle. Amidst the contest between multiple factions, the 1911 revolution paves the way for the end of the old older that has existed for thousand of years.

Filming lasted five months and wrapped on October 28, 2020.
A Love Never Lost announced its July 18, 2022 premiere for primetime television on Hunan TV, iQIYI and MGTV. But the show did not broadcast and was later released as a web drama at 22:20 on iQIYI before it was taken down again citing technical issues as a reason for the postponement.
