Synopsis and Plot Summary

An unconventional take on the classic wuxia story of Zhang Wuji paints a martial arts world in turmoil over the heaven sword and the dragon saber and his journey to avenge his family.

Zhang Wuji (Jet Li) loses his parents at a young age after they were both forced to their deaths due to threats from the so-called righteous sects for them to betray the location of Zhang Wuji's godfather Gold Lion. Zhang Wuji also gets seriously injured by the Xuanming Elders which renders him weak, sickly and unable to practice martial arts. Having been bullied by his fellow Wudang students all his life, Zhang Wuji's adventure begins after falling off a cliff with Xiaozhao (Chingmy Yau) and chancing upon the opportunity to learn the 'Nine Yang Technique'.

It is hailed as a Hong Kong wuxia classic and also featured a star-studded cast.
The movie ended in a cliffhanger as the Kung Fu Cult Master was initially supposed to be the first part of a trilogy.
Wong Jing suddenly announced in December 2019 that the 1993 movie was getting a sequel where Zhang Wuji will finally go to Dadu to find Zhao Min.
