Synopsis and Plot Summary
New Kung Fu Cult Master 1 (倚天屠龙记之九阳神功)
It tells the story of Zhang Wuji, the son of Wudang disciple Zhang Cuishan, who is caught in the strife over the Dragon Saber. By chance, he masters unparalleled martial arts and becomes involved in the dispute between the Ming Cult and the different martial arts sects as well as the confrontation between the rebels and the corrupt imperial court.

It continues the cliffhanger from The Kung Fu Cult Master where Zhang Wuji heads out to find Zhao Min in Dadu.
Fun Facts
- On December 21, 2019, Hong kong director Wong Jing shared a conceptual poster on Weibo to announce that he was making a Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber movie.
- Since Wong Jing said that Zhang Wuji will be looking for Zhao Min in Dadu, many were excited for a proper conclusion to the 1993 film Kung Fu Cult Master which ended in a cliffhanger.
- Filming began in 19 Fengjingqu, Xinchang County, Zhejiang Province on January 2, 2020 but was halted temporarily due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
- It features a star-studded cast of Hong Kong veteran actors.
- After the first posters was revealed, there was much criticism about 40-year-old actor Raymond Lam being too old to play Zhang Wuji. Wong Jing responds on livestream, "I don't think Raymond Lam is old because Zhang Wuji reappears when he's thirty something years old so Raymond's age is just right and he does action scenes well."
- New Kung Fu Cult Master was released online as a two-part movie for Chinese New Year 2022 29 years after the original.
