Synopsis and Plot Summary

Set during the late Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republican era, a commoner mistakenly enters the palace as a cook and forms a relationship with an imperial guard. Together, they get pulled into a case concerning the theft of national treasures.

The emperor may have abdicated his throne but the Forbidden City remains under monarch rule. Rong'er (Hai Lu) who lives outside the palace finds herself becoming a court lady and forming a close relationship with imperial guard Li Qi (Ji Lingchen). Her bubbliness and intelligence also earns the favor of Puyi (Li Mingde), the last Emperor of China.

Rong'er's skill in cooking gains the approval of Shouxi (Stephy Tang) who takes her under her wing. However, Shouxi is accused of stealing treasures within the palace. The evidence mounting against her leaves her no room to plead her innocence. Unwilling to let her teacher die in vain, Rong'er starts her investigation with Li Qi by her side. As a greater conspiracy to sell treasures to foreign merchants is revealed, Rong Er and Li Qi team up to protect national interest.
