Synopsis and Plot Summary
It tells the story of a lonely musician, Zhang Shaojie, who meets A Min, a street performer who is optimistic and good-natured despite having suffered from a terminal illness. Through her infectious personality, he achieves success in his career.
The story begins during the 1980's Hong Kong. Born with a silver spoon, Liu Haoyun (Xia Dejun) comes home after his studies abroad. At a bar, he meets and pursues the resident singer Li Zaiai (Tong Liya) who captivates him with her unique voice and temperament. His father objects to their love affair and pushes for his son to marry a famous socialite named Xu Peifen (Guan Xiaomin). Even though Liu Haoyun resists at first, he marries Peifen eventually.
At this time, Li Zaiai gives birth to a baby girl, A Min (Fiona Sit), who is actually the daughter of Haoyun (Alex Fong). A Min grows up to be a beautiful and talented singer just like her mother and comes to form a band called "Endless Love". She meets a composer, Zhang Shaojie (Chen Kun), who had just broken up with his girlfriend, Tracy. She loves Shaojie with all her heart but when roadblocks are put in their path, she is also afraid that her first love will end.
Fun Facts
- Filming took place in Guangzhou.
- It is Derek Yee's first time directing a drama. He was the director of the 1993 film starring Lau Ching-wan, Anita Yuen and Carina Lau.
- Fiona Sit rewatched the movie several times to research about the role.
- Chen Kun was very hesitant about the movie at first because the original was too much of a classic. He was worried that the drama wouldn't do justice to it. He also felt pressure from having to portray the role previously brought to life by Lau Ching-wan. After Derek Yee came to Beijing to talk to him, Chen Kun's reservations disappeared.
- Chen Kun could not play any instrument before filming started. As his character needed to play the saxophone, the piano and the harmonica, Chen Kun spent a few months practicing so that it would look realistic on film.
- Because Fiona Sit could not speak Mandarin very well, Chen Kun would purposely run lines with her at a slower speed so that she can adjust.
- It is Tong Liya's first drama. She was in her second year at the Central Academy of Drama.
