Synopsis and Plot Summary
Li Wei, a man of humble beginnings, relies on his intelligence and wit to gain the approval of Yongzheng and starts his journey in politics to fight against the greedy and the corrupt.
The story takes place during the reign of Kangxi Emperor. As Li Wei (Xu Zheng) flees from a calamity, he crosses paths with Yue Siying (Chen Hao) and her younger brother. They decide to become travel companions on the way to Jiangnan. When Li Wei steals 13th prince Yin Xiang's (Wang Hui) prized sword in order to rescue a group of refugees from being sentenced to death, his act of heroism catches the attention of both Yinxiang and Yinzhen (Tang Guozheng). Li Wei is assigned a post as the county magistrate of Suyang. Being illiterate, he is often made the butt of jokes but proves himself through his quick thinking and unwavering resolve to help the people.
