A story that follows a movie crew that has arrived in the mountainous areas of Xinan to scope the location. They encounter countless obstacles in trying to find their way.
Director Wang Zhun (Wang Xuebing) visits his actress wife Gao Li (Muqi Miya) while she was filming on set. Being the less famous of the two, Wang Zhun often keeps a low-profile and takes on low-budget movies.
Despite facing liquidity problems, Wang Zhun plans to make a movie based on the ethnic Han folk song Epic of Darkness, so he heads to the mountains to find inspiration. He travels with a crew that includes producer Ding Hongmin (Liu Dan), a camerawoman (Li Xinran), an actor (Yi Daqian) and the eccentric Old Luo (Yi Ping) as their guide. Everything goes wrong from the very start when their car can no longer pass through the road.
