Synopsis and Plot Summary
A story that explores the rampant corruption plaguing the reign of Tianqi Emperor and how righteous heroes fight against a eunuch that has seized power within the royal court.
The Tianqi Emperor has become a puppet ruler during the Ming Dynasty. State affairs have fallen into the hands of eunuch Wei Zhongxian (Wang Xinming). Wei Zhongxian has appointed his own people to important positions and eradicated anyone who dares to question their authority.
In this time of great danger, Ma Shangfei (Hong Jintao), a servant of Donglin Academy is under orders to escape with his young master. Because they carry with them an earth-shattering secret, their journey is difficult and fraught with danger. Ye Hongying (Vincent Jiao), the number one assassin of Shen Ji Barracks, is sent to kill them. Along the way, he meets Yang Dongqing (Qi fang), a dancer and an ally of the Donglin Academy. When Ye Hongying realizes that the entity he faithfully serves is the root of all evil, will he be able to succeed in righting the wrongs that have been committed?
