Synopsis and Plot Summary

A young woman with a noble cause undergoes brutal training and experiences countless brushes with death to become a beautiful and lethal assassin.

In the year 1925, a young woman named Zhong Li (Tang Yan) is driven by her love for country to sign up for the first joint training exercises by the Communist and the Kuomintang. She is assigned to a unit with Luo Yifei (Wang Miao) and Tan Ruiling (Eva Lv) and they form a deep bond through their days as trainees.

An incident drives a wedge between Luo Yifei and Zhong Li while their commander Gao Yishan (Zhang Xilin) takes advantage of the weak-willed Tan Ruling. Under the leadership of Gao Yishan, the three women make a significant contribution to the ongoing war as members of the special forces. However, Zhong Li begins to doubt the core values of the very organization that she has been fighting for when they begin to terminate their own. Zhong Li's superior He Yun (Hong Jingjing) dies while trying to protect her.

With no one to depend on but herself, Zhong Li fights a lonely battle and completely turns against Gao Yishan. During an operation, she crosses paths with He Junfeng (Luo Jun) by chance. He is an outstanding spy who clashes with her at first only to become lifelong partners as they complete every mission as a team.

Filming took place in Shanghai.
Filming was completed in May 2012.
Wang Miao's lip got injured during an intense fight scene. She said that it really hurt, but she can still laugh about it.
It is Wang Miao's first time playing a spy.
It is Tang Yan's first action role. To get the best results, she tried to do her own stunts as much as possible and often got injured because of it.
Eva Lv and Lin Yongqian left an impression playing a father and daughter in the 2013 drama Bi You Cai. In Agent X, the play a couple.
It is Tang Yan and Luo Jin's second time playing a couple after A Beauty in Troubled Times in 2012.
