Synopsis and Plot Summary
It tells the story of Wang Yunshan and his comrades who fought and were successful in stopping the enemies’ advances. In the battle of Huaihai, they rallied Guo Xunkui to their side to liberate Sichuan.
In 1931, a young Wang Yunshan (Leon Zhang) fought with enemies in the Su District. After emerging victorious, Wang Yunshan is promoted to squad leader. In 1935, Wang Yunshan and Du Deyong (Wei Qianxiang) become friends and they witness the great meeting the 1st and 4th Red Army. When the anti-Japanese occupation started, Wang Yunshan fought and became injured. He then starts a family with Han Yan (Lai Yumeng) but a tragedy befalls theim. In spite of the deaths, Wang Yunshan perseveres in leading the troops to fight a war. Wang Yunshan devises a scheme to attack Xiangyang. He also learns to work with Guo Xunkui (Vengo Gao) to liberate Sichuan. At the same time, the New China was being formally established in Tiananmen Square in Beijing.

- It is a drama to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army.
- Filming lasted 120 days from February 2017 to June 2017.
- It is Leon Zhang's first military drama where he plays a member of the Eight Route Army.
- It is the third in the Liang Jian dramas. The 2005 drama Liang Jian starring Li Youbin is known as a classic in the historical war genre.
- It was criticized by People's Daily for its portrayal of the Eight Route Army depicting the actors in huge mansions with their hair waxed which is inconsistent with history. People's Daily wrote, "Idol drama plot should not appear in an anti-Japaenese aggression war film."
- It was suddenly pulled from broadcast on Hunan TV with The Best of Times airing in its place.
