Synopsis and Plot Summary
The story of My Fair Princess continuous to revolve around Xiao Yan Zi and Yongqi, Zi Wei and Er Kang, Xiao Jian and Qing Ge Ge and finally, Emperor Qianlong and Xia Yingying. Despite being married, Xiao Yan Zi and Yongqi face more obstacles than ever. Xiao Jian continues to struggle with his grudge towards the Emperor. Er Kang fights in the war and fails to return.
The Empress Dowager is unhappy with Xiao Yan Zi (Huang Yi) whom she feels does not measure up to be Yongqi’s (Leo Ku) wife. On top of that, Xiao Yan Zi has a miscarriage and loses their baby. Xiao Yan Zi and her brother Xiao Jian (Huang Xiaoming) who only has his eyes for Qing Ge Ge (Wang Yan) also have to deal with the Empress Dowager’s extreme dislike for them due to their real identities.
Emperor Qianlong (Ti Lung) is too preoccupied to be interested in his children’s affairs because he is smitten with Xia Yingying (Jiang Qinqin). Wanting to secure the line of imperial succession, the Empress Dowager threatens to kill Xiao Jian if Yongqi does not marry Zhi Hua (Qin Lan).
Yongqi and Er Kang (Zhou Jie) soon volunteer to join the fight with Burma where Er Kang encounters Princess Mu Sha (Liu Tao) while she was pretending to be a man. She is instantly attracted to Er Kang and plans on bringing him home to Burma.
The Qing army wins but they bring home the body of a deceased Er Kang suddenly throwing Zi Wei (Ma Yili) into a world of grief. Xiao Jian is unconvinced by the evidence and suspects that Er Kang is captured and hidden in Burma. He takes the news back to his sister, Zi Wei and Qing Er who plan to travel to Burma against the Emperor’s will.
Fun Facts
- It is the third installment of the My Fair Princess TV series.
- Only Zhou Jie returns from the main cast. Wang Yan, Zhao Minfen, Wen Haibo and Liu Fang return from the supporting cast. Although Chiung Yao had hoped for a reunion, Vicki Zhao, Ruby Lin and Alec Su could not return due to their busy schedules.
- Filming lasted four months beginning April 2002 and ending on September 3, 2002. Post-production took place in Taiwan and Hong Kong.
- Leo Ku stayed in Beijing for half a year to film the drama.
- Hong Kong actors Leo Ku and Ti Lung spoke in Cantonese for filming.
- Leo Ku participated in the composition of the opening and ending theme song of the drama.
- Due to the high temperature, Leo Ku and Zhou Jie experienced heat stroke while filming.
- Leo Ku made preparations before filming. He practiced horseback riding, shaved his head and went on diet to lose weight.
