Synopsis and Plot Summary

The King is paying big money to anyone who can capture the monsters that are on the loose. A group of vigilante outlaws who simply wanted to rob the rich to help the poor find themselves facing off with the monsters.

During the reign of Wanli Emperor of the Ming Dynasty, a group of outlaws prepare to raid the house of a public official. They have segregated duties among themselves to get the job done, but their plan is riddled with problems due to clashing personalities. Along the way, the group encounters unexpected arrivals that cause them to have second thoughts, yet it has become too late for them to back out.

Filming took place in Beijing, China.
Filming lasted two months beginning on April 13, 2017 and ending on June 8, 2017.
Director Andrew Lau is known for his works in the crime action genre. He shared that he has decided to film Kung Fu Monster because he has never seen such a story in his 30 years of experience and found it very interesting. According to Lau, the complexity of human nature is depicted through comedy and there are many parallels to reality that he hopes will give viewers a different experience.
