Synopsis and Plot Summary
An ordinary man working at a pawnshop accidentally encounters an incident that affects his eyes and ignites changes in his life that start him on a tomb-raiding adventure.
One evening, Zhuang Rui (Zhang Yixing) gets attacked by robbers and in the scuffle, he is struck by a broken jade. After his injuries have healed, he discovers that he has arrived at life's crossroads. Destiny has chosen Zhuang Rui to go on a quest to finding the truth. He makes friends like Huang Fuyun (Wang Yuexin) along the way and forms an ambiguous relationship with female cop Miao Feifei (Wang Zixuan) and jeweller Qin Xuanbing. As an archeological secret from 40 years ago comes to light, Zhuang Rui and his comrades find that their lives are in danger.
Fun Facts
- Filming lasted four months beginning on January 12, 2018 and ending on June 5, 2018.
- It has the same production team behind The Mystic Nine.
- The filming crew issued an apology to Lay after an incident on March 29, 2018 when they rented a white Mercedes Benz as a prop for filming purposes. The driver started filming a live broadcast without Lay's consent, which is an invasion of the actor's privacy, and furthermore, a violation of contract. The production team apologized to Lay through the drama's official Weibo page and took responsibility for what happened. They promised to take more measures to protect the safety and privacy of the artist.
- Lay has played similar roles in The Mystic Nine and also cameod in Tomb of the Sea which is another drama adapted from a novel by Nanpai Sanshu.
- Episode count was changed from 60 to 56 in the records filed with NRTA (formerly SARFT).
- On August 30, 2019, the drama won the prestigious Golden Bird Prize award at the Seoul International Drama Awards.
