Synopsis and Plot Summary
Xu Lingjun is an intellectual who builds a life for himself after being mistakenly identified as a capitalist and getting sent to the borders.
In the cusp of a new era in China, Xu Lingjun was abandoned by his father who left for the United States when he was just eleven years old. Due to his father's stance as a capitalist, Xu Lingjun (Yu Xiaowei) is accused of being a rightist and sent to Helan Mountain to undergo reform. He marries Li Xiuzhi (Sun Qian) and strives to make a living despite the injustices. In the span of 20 years, Xu Lingjun never forgets his dream to help transform the village kids into men of talent.

Fun Facts
- Filming took place in Yinchuan, China.
- Sun Qian and the crew resided in the Northwestern Province for about half a year to get to know village life. Sun Qian also took the time to learn the region's dialect.
- The crew built a 23 thousand square meter set near the entrance of Helan Mountain Pagoda.
