Synopsis and Plot Summary
A story revolving around Zhong Kui who is known in Chinese mythology as the vanquisher of ghosts and evil beings. On the night of the full moon on July 15th, the three realms comprised of immortals, demons and humans wage a war as thousands of demons form an army to attack the living.
Hu City is a place along the Western borders of Tang where its citizens are free from demonic control. Under the guidance of Immortal Daoist Zhang, Zhong Kui (Chen Kun) becomes a full-fledged demon hunter and travels deep into the Demonic Realm to steal a box that can spell the end of the demons and bring eternal peace to the human realm.
The Demon King sends all of his minions to retrieve the box. Through repeated encounters, Zhong Kui begins to waver as he realizes that the line between good and evil is not nearly as clear cut as it seemed. He also gets reunited with Snow Girl (Li Bingbing) whose appearance revives romantic feelings that he cannot ignore. He soon realizes that he has fallen into the midst of a big conspiracy.

- Filming took place in Xiangshan and Xinjiang.
- Filming lasted around three months beginning on February 16, 2014 and ending on May 17, 2014.
- Qin Zhen also worked on the screenplay for the drama Demon Catcher Zhong Kui.
