Synopsis and Plot Summary

During the Eastern Liang Dynasty, Ye Ningzhi (Viva He) is the star of a circus that has been invited to the palace to perform for the Empress Dowager. She ends up being framed by the Crown Princess (Liu Min) and put into a perilous situation. Fortunately, Wei Guang (Jeremy Tsui) who is known as the best political strategist in the palace saves her.

Because of his act of kindness, Ye Ningzhi holds the memory dearly. Two years later, she returns to the palace to serve as a handmaiden of the Empress (Cao Xiwen). Her intelligence, courage and kindness impresses everyone around her that even the unpredictable Empress was deeply moved by her along with the Emperor who has also grown quite fond of her. At this time, the Crown Princess makes her move to secure the throne which puts Ye Ningzhi and Wei Guang in the center of a power struggle.

It is Hong Kong actor Wayne Lai's first project in Mainland China. He is very drawn to characters that Cheung Wah-Biu writes so when he heard about the drama, he freed up a year of his schedule to make sure that he would be able to reunite with Cheung Wah-Biu on the project.
It is Jeremy Tsui's first time leading a historical drama. His last drama Legend of Dugu was his breakout role. Even though he played a supporting character, his popularity and pairing with co-star Ady An overshadowed the leads.
Filming began on April 15, 2018.
Filming took place in Hengdian World Studios.
It has hit 100 million views on its second day of airing.
