Synopsis and Plot Summary
A story that paints a picture of young men and women during the 1990's who harbor their own hopes, dreams, uncertainties and fears as they make their way through life.
Yang Zheng (Li Yapeng) comes from a small city located in the distant provinces of China. While studying in Shanghai, he meets and becomes friends with Ruo Tong (Wang Yuwen), Wen Hui (Xu Jinglei), Le Yan (Wang Xuebing) and Yu Sen (Liao Fan). Yang Zheng and Wen Hui fall in love at first sight but pride prevents him from allowing her to help him secure a job. He breaks up with her to find employment in the South. Heartbroken, Wen Hui begins to date Yu Sen. When he realizes that she never really loved him, their one-sided relationship ends in a fatal tragedy.
Riddled with guilt, Wen Hui cannot bear to accept Yang Zheng's attempts to get back together with her. Even as he returns from the South, she decides to study abroad in the US. Yan Zheng lands himself in prison after committing illegal activities to earn money. Ruo Tong takes him in afterwards but complications arise when Wen Hui returns.
