Synopsis and Plot Summary
A story revolving around the lonesome and grueling situation of migrant workers in their fight to make better lives for themselves.
Yang Yaoting (Yang Zishan) who's a Ganshu province native grew up in Shenchuan. Aside from applying for her ID, she has never once set foot in Gangshu. Her parents who have been working in Shenchuan for twenty years decide to return to their hometown of Ganshu which resides in a small village. After seeing that their lifestyle is not ideal, she desperately tries to earn enough money to help her parents get back home. Moreover, Li Xinmin's (Yin Fang) arrival brings a major change into her life.
Fun Facts
- It was part of Cannes' Official Selection and was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 70th Cannes Film Festival in 2017.
- Yang Zishan lost 20 jin for the role. She also went bare-faced for her character, and was covered in grime and even added on freckles to look the part.
- Yin Fang wrote an over 10,000 word character analysis to detail his understanding of Li Xinmin as a character - his growth and his ideals, which Yin Fang would often discuss with Director Li Ruijun.
