Synopsis and Plot Summary

A story revolving around two people who meet due to a chance encounter. They fall for each other, grow together and selflessly devote their lives for their country.

On New Year's Day in the year 1949, Qiao Zhicai (Chen Kun) was plotting his escape from prison, but was surprised when he is suddenly set free. Carrying only a briefcase, he searches for the man behind his predicament. On the train, he accidentally bumps into Huang Liwen (Wan Qian) who is returning home to visit the grave of her late husband. Without either of them realizing it, they take each other's briefcase by mistake. Huang Liwen is a rookie spy whose briefcase carries an important transmitter that is meant to be used by Communist operatives. In her search for the missing transmitter, she becomes acquainted with the kind, gentle, honest and intelligent Qiao Zhicai, not knowing that his younger brother Qiao Lijie plays a crucial role to the success of the mission.
