Synopsis and Plot Summary

A coming of age story that follows the young heroes as they embark on a legendary journey in the fictional universe of Novoland.

Lu Gui Chen (Liu Haoran) of Beilu Qingyang has arrived in Donglu as a royal hostage. He encounters Ji Ye (Chen Ruo Xuan) who is an illegitimate son unfavored by his own father. He also meets Princess Yu Ran (Song Zu Er) who has come to seek refuge with her grandfather. Due to their circumstances, the three experience many hardships while attending the Taizi School and they begin to develop a strong bond with each other. Yu Ran's bubbly and charming personality wins the hearts of both men and the seeds of romance start to blossom. Meanwhile, Conquerer Ying Wu Yi (Zhang Feng Yi) has taken over a country's affairs after taking the King as his hostage. Lu Gui Chen, Ji Ye, Yu Ran and many loyal patriots band together for a battle that may be even deadlier that meets the eye.

Fun Facts

Filming took place in Hubei, Xinjiang, Beijing, Scotland and many other locations.
Filming began November 2, 2017.
Jiang Nan who writes the source novel also writes the screenplay in collaboration with Chang Jiang.
Episode count was changed from 56 to 69 to 70 in the records filed with NRTA (formerly SARFT).
Shortly before scheduled premiere on Jun 3, 2019, there was a sudden announcement that it has been postponed. Many speculated that it was due to censorship.
On July 16, 2019, it was suddenly announced that Novoland: Eagle Flag is premiering on the same night. Episodes have been reduced from 68 to 56.
On Jul 18, it hit 100 million views two days after its premiere.
It is part of the shared fictional universe of Novoland that is the handiwork of seven principal authors and the second after Tribes and Empires: Storm of Prophecy to be adapted to drama.
The Novoland: Eagle Flag novels by Jiang Nan is comprised of six volumes.
