Synopsis and Plot Summary
It chronicles the experiences of a prominent family as they survive shifting generations from the Republican era to the establishment of the People's Republic of China.
In the year 1918, Li Chengrang (Gao Ziqi) returns from England with his wife and child. The Li Family has setup a food drive to feed the hungry that have been victims of prolonged drought. Li Chengrang's English wife (Mariatu Kargbo) also sets up a school for orphans. Her intentions are inline with the Li Family's values and it gradually gains her acceptance into the family. Despite the trials brought by changing times and ill-intended parties, Li Chengrang and his sister-in-law (Chae Rim) step up as a member of the household and as citizens of the country.
Fun Facts
- The Li Family Courtyard is the ancestral home of Jinnan tycoon Li Ziyong. The main character Li Chengrang is modeled after Li Ziyong.
- South Korean actress Chae Rim and Chinese actor Gao Ziqi confirmed that they were dating in March 2014 after being spotted by paparazzi. They got married in October 2014.
- It is part of the dramas that were affected by the Hallyu Ban, an unofficial ban that was in effect in China to restrict all forms of Hallyu aka Korean Wave due to the political disagreement between China and Korea over THAAD.
