Synopsis and Plot Summary

A story inspired by myths and legends follows the heroic adventures of Ne Zha and the little dragon girl of the East Sea who start out as enemies yet gradually work hand in hand to slay monsters and vanquish evil spirits.

Ne Zha (Jiang Yiyi) is the young son of general Li Jing. Having witnessed the people's sufferings due to an endless drought, Ne Zha doesn't hesitate to confront the water tribe and ends up facing Ao Bing, the East Sea Dragon King's third son, in battle. However, due to machinations by the demon clan, Nezha is framed for the death of Ao Bing. The Dragon King comes to land demanding justice for his son's death. Unwilling to involve his parents, Ne Zha chooses to end his life.

 Ne Zha was originally a soul bead and his fate has already been written by the heavens. Using magic, Taiyi Zhenren uses lotus roots to for his bones and lotus leaves for his clothes to reconstruct Ne Zha's immortal  body and bring him back to life. However, there is a price to pay.  First, Ne Zha needs to enter the mortal realm to retrieve five magical relics. Second, he needs to help little dragon girl (Wu Jiayi) who is the princess of the East Sea defeat the Snake Demon in order to rebuild the Water Tribe. Only in this way can Ne Zha make up for his wrongdoings and be reunited with his family.

• Filming took place in Hengdian World Studios and Xiangshan Global Studios.
• Filming lasted over three months from July 23, 2017 to November 6, 2017.
• Actress Jiang Yiyi plays Nezha, which is a male character although many film adaptations have seen actresses playing the role.
• The story of Nezha is well-known in Chinese mythology.
