Synopsis and Plot Summary

A story that follows a woman's life in troubled times and a romance that endures many hardships in the 1930's.

Lin Yuhui (Dong Jie) lost her mother when she was 13 years old and she migrated from Shanghai to Nanjing with her adoptive mother. In order to make a living, she accompanies her adoptive father everyday to the riverbanks of Qinhuai. Five years later, Chen Moren (Yu Rongguang), an old friend of her father's, finds her and takes her home to a new family. She meets the Chen family siblings and Gao Jinbang (Han Dong), the helper's grandson.

Because of an arranged marriage with Chen Moren's son, Lin Yuhui has no choice but to keep her feelings for Gao Jinbang buried in her heart. When the Japanese marched into Nanjing, Lin Yuhui takes up the burden of saving her countrymen. She never would have expected that the man she hasn't been willing to accept would start on a road to becoming a revolutionary while the man that she loved wholeheartedly would become a traitor to his country.
