Synopsis and Plot Summary
Set towards the end of Sui and the beginning of the Tang Dynasty is a story of intense upheaval that paves the way for a Golden Age under the rule of the Li Imperial Family.
As is often told in history, there is no peace without bloodshed and the story follows a father and son rising above the dangerous and long-drawn battle for power among the nobles and the royals. They wave the banner 'Tang' and established their capital in Chang An. However, favoritism within the family leads to more turmoil between Li Shi Min (Qin Jun Jie) and the Crown Prince Li Jian Cheng (Han Dong). Amidst the political rife, Wei Zheng (Zhang Hanyu) who serves as the Prime Minister remains dedicated to keeping the peace in Chang An. (Source: DramaPanda)
Fun Facts
- Filming took place in Beijing, Hengdian World Studios and Wu Xi.
- One day before the scheduled premiere on July 16, it was suddenly announced that the show has been delayed citing issues on the version to be broadcasted and scheduling.
- Director Lian Yiming had this to say about the delay, "Tian Xia Chang An has been postponed! No words! Change it again and I won't recognize it any longer! Hope it can air soon! This drama holds a special meaning to me! And also painful memories!"
- Director Lian Yiming played the Demon King in Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms.
- Li Xiejian requested to extend filming in order to gain a better understanding of the character.
- Zhang Hanyu grew a beard for the role.
- Han Dong gained 10 jin for the role.
- Due to the persistent hot weather and the weight of the armors, many things were outside the control of the crew. A particular war scene took over ten days to film.
- Zhang Hanyu, Qin Junjie and a number of cast members took half a month to practice horseback riding in Beijing. In Hengdian, they also spent half a month to practice.
