Synopsis and Plot Summary

In a war of codes and ciphers, a member of the Communist underground goes to great lengths to protect a mathematical genius who holds crucial information against the Japanese army.

Lan Zhibing and his wife were travelling around Europe in 1941 when they decipher a secret code hidden in a Japanese telegram. Together with their son Lan Tian (Zhang Chen), they head back to China to relay the message, but they are ambushed by the Japanese. Lan Zhibing and his wife are captured and killed. Lan Tian who is still in possession of the code is rescued by the Fourth Army. However, the Japanese have sealed the exits and aim to capture Lan Tian.

Yin San (Yu Zhen) is the head of security in Jiang City. His is a member of the Communist underground who has lost contact with his party because of an accident. In the time of danger, he shoulders the responsibility of bringing Lan Tian to safety and takes on Japanese sergeant Gao Qiao (Yin Zhusheng). Yin San and Lan Tian hide in an alleyway behind an inn, receiving the help of many hot-blooded patriots like Shangguan Yu (Chen Zihan).

Yu Zhen stars and directs the movie. His wife Xin Yue also stars but due to their busy schedules, they barely had time to see each other except when they were on set.
Filming took place in Hengdian World Studios.
Nicky Wu founded Straw Bear Pictures in 2003. He also stars in the drama.
It won the popular drama award in the 2017 China Quality TV Drama Awards.
It is Yu Zhen and Chen Zihan's fourth time working together.
The script took 3 years to complete.
During the press conference, Yu Zhen said that because people kept saying that he had a long face, they decided to try reverse psychology by going with a look that will emphasize his long face.
