Fun Facts
- Princess of Lanling King is touted as Lan Ling Wang's lesser known cousin due to its reference to the same time period in history, yet it is actually unrelated to the former in everything else. In fact, Princess of Lanling King is adapted from a web novel of the same name that was released by Yang Qian Zi in 2006. It is Kristy Zhang's first attempt at acting in a period drama and she has large shoes to fill given the comparison to Ariel Lin, which she humbly acknowledges. Andy Chen Yi who plays Lanling King has also expressed pressure at portraying his character because of its depiction as a godly warrior known for his perfectly-chiseled features. Filming began in Sept 2013 and wrapped in January 2014 with an investment of around 80 million RMB, most of which went to exquisite costumes that translate beautifully onscreen. In fact, Kristy Zhang's wedding gown alone costs tens of thousands of dollars. The production team's attention to detail is evident from the breathtaking trailers and posters that have been released. Despite being shelved without an air date for years, the series finally premiered on Sept. 29, 2016 on Mango TV. Unfortunately, Wang Jie Xi who plays Lan Ling Wang's fiancee in the drama has passed away in 2015 due to her battle with leukemia.
