Synopsis and Plot Summary
A painful love story during the reign of Qianlong Emperor that follows a man, the love of his life and the princess that he marries.
Song Lian Cheng (Yuan Shan Shan) is the daughter of a general but she has been abandoned by her own mother in exchange for a baby boy whom they name Fu Cha Heng Tai (Lu Yi). In a twist of fate, Lian Cheng meets and falls in love with Fu Cha Heng Tai and neither of the two have an inkling on their real identities. To make matters worse, Fu Cha Heng Tai must follow an imperial edict to marry another woman.
Fun Facts
- Filming took place in Hengdian World Studios.
- It is the first Chinese drama in 2014 to be aired abroad. It premiered on Chunghwa TV in Korea.
- It is the third installment of the Gong franchise. It deviates from the typical palace politics found in Palace 1 and Palace 2 to focus on the lives of a prominent military family.
- The plot is noticeably reminiscent of Taiwanese author Chiung Yao's 1992 novel called Plum Blossom Scar and rightfully so as Chiung Yao releases an open letter accusing Yu Zheng of blatant plagiarism, which he vehemently denies.
- Chiung Yao first called out Yu Zheng via weibo in April 2014. On April 29, 2014, she filed a formal case against him.
- On December 25, 2014, the Beijing court ordered that the broadcast be stopped and that 5 million yuan be paid to the plaintiff.
- On December 22, 2015, Chiung Yao's lawyer Wang Jun issued a statement to put a stop to any and all broadcasts and activities associated with Palace 3.
- Yuan Shanshan went through a lot of hardships for the role such as wirework, carrying people and being buried in the sand. She had no complaints and often suggested to do a retake. She often joked around with the crew and was known to have a nice personality.
- On set, Lu Yi and many other cast members would sit on a small square table to play poker and other card games in their costumes.
