Synopsis and Plot Summary

A story about the investiture of the gods that follows Yang Jian, Ji Fa and Jiang Ziya as they face off against the evil powers led by King Zhou, Da Ji and Shen Gongbao.

In the late years of Shang Dynasty, King Zhou indulges in carnal pleasures and debauchery. He listens to the instigations of Fei Zhong to covet official Su's daughter Su Daji (Wang Likun) for himself and launches a war in her name. However, Da Ji has already been possessed by a fox demon. She enters the palace and commits horrifying atrocities through the hands of the king. Meanwhile, Ji Chang, the duke of the West, has been diligently caring for his people and continues to grow the forces of Xi Qi.

The Heavenly Senior sends Jiang Ziya (Yu Hewei) to assist Ji Chang in his efforts to defeat King Zhou. Jiang Ziya learns of a man named Yang Jian (Luo Jin) who is born with a third eye and godly might. Knowing that Yang Jian would one day have to make the choice between good and evil, he takes Yang Jian in as his disciple to inspire his kindness and sense of justice.

Filming took place in Hengdian World Studios.
Filming lasted around five months, beginning March 18, 2015 and eending August 18, 2015.
Korean Director Shin Woo Chul is a veteran in the entertainment industry whose works include Lovers in Paris, On Air and Secret Garden. It is his first time to direct a Chinese TV series.
The Gods is yet another adaptation based on a novel called Investiture of the Gods, which has inspired many similar works in the genre. It aims to provide a different flavor to the well-known story, packed with more intensity, mystery and high-flying action.
Zhang Bo and Yu Hewei are in special starring roles.
Initially planned for 65 episodes of broadcast, it was suddenly announced that the drama will conclude with 55 episodes leading many to guess that it had to be hastily edited to squeeze down the remaining 10 something episodes into the finale.
A total of 53 episodes have aired so far. When viewers tuned in to watch on the day of the finale, many were surprised that the finale did not air. Instead, Young Blood premiered on the same time slot.
