Synopsis and Plot Summary
A story revolving around a man who through a series of events comes to assume the identity of Yang Xu to become a member of the Jinyiwei. He also falls into a romance with a lady in a gallant story filled with laughter and tears.
During the beginning of the Ming Dynasty, Xia Xun (Zhang Han) who is an ordinary commoner ends up taking the identity of Yang Xu after his death. Yang Xu is a talented scholar from a wealthy family. Under his new identity, Xia Xun becomes a pawn of the Jinyiwei and bears witness to the atrocities of Zhang Shi San and his lackeys. He also encounters Xie Zi Fei (Park Min Young) who will later become his wife. On his journeys, Xia Xun is saved by Xi Men Lang (Jeremy Tsui) and Ji Gang (Shawn Wei) and they become blood brothers. When Zhu Yunwen took the throne, he began to promulgate war to further his reach across the lands. Xia Xun empathizes with the plight of the people and decides to help Yan Wang become King.

- Filming took place in Hengdian World Studios.
- It is part of the dramas that were affected by the Hallyu Ban, an unofficial ban that was in effect in China to restrict all forms of Hallyu aka Korean Wave due to the political disagreement between China and Korea over THAAD. On October 31, 2017, there were reports that both sides were making a move to mend diplomatic ties and news that the virtual ban has been lifted came days later. (Source: Sohu)
- It is one of four dramas starring Zhang Han that were affected by the Hallyu Ban as it featured Korean actress Park Min Young as the leading lady. There was a running joke that Zhang Han had it worst as all of his dramas couldn't air. There was The Legendary Tycoon with Gu Hye Sun, Gorgeous Workers with Choo Ja Hyun and The Rhapsody of A Summer Dream with Go Jun Hee.
- Zhang Han said that the language barrier between him and Park Min Young did not affect how they communicated as they were both familiar with their scenes and could express themselves through eye contact and gestures such that there was no pressure when they were actually filming scenes together.
- Park Min Young said that even though it was extremely hot, she enjoyed filming. She really likes her character and learned many things about Chinese culture.
- Due to the intensely hot weather, Zhang Han fell ill with fever but he still persisted in coming to work and did not delay filming.
- Chung Shu-kai got sick with pneumonia shortly before filming wrapped. The crew told him to take a rest but he merely when to get IV drops and returned to film.
