Love Meter

Synopsis and Plot Summary

During the reign of Empress Wu Zetian, there lived an imperial doctor with a wicked tongue and godly skills in cosmetology. He falls into a romance with a female entertainer who wants nothing more than to get married.

Helan Jun (Jin Shijia) is an imperial doctor who takes pleasure in beautifying women. His extraordinary talents invited other people's jealousy and he falls victim to an evil scheme. Helan Jun discovers that his child is not his but a child that his wife Xue Ji (Lv Jiarong) had with another man. Xue Ji completely abandons him and he finds that he has nowhere else to go. Penniless and downtrodden, he crosses paths with the kind-hearted Su Lianyi (Yang Rong), a woman from the brothel, who takes him in and despite his situation, Helan Jun relies on his medical skills to help people find happiness.

Filming took place in Hengdian World Studios.
Filming began on July 1, 2014 and ended in August 2014.
Luo Jin, Yuan Shanshan, Cherry Ying and many other stars appeared in their own episodes in the series.
On December 25, 2014, novelist Zhou Haohui announced on weibo that he is suing Yu Zheng for plagiarizing his novel Xie E Cui Mian Shi. On November 7, 2016, the court ruled that Cosmetology High did not plagiarize Zhou Haohui's novel.
Yu Zheng said that the drama's costume designs are different from the past. A single handmaid hairpin can cost thousands. It was Yu Zheng's most extravagant and expensive drama at the time.
In order to have material for the drama, Yu Zheng collected close to one hundred kinds of beauty recipes from face slimming to removing moles.
Yu Zheng said that he rejected product placements worth 6 million yuan from a facial care brand as he was worried it would affect the story.
During her free time, Cao Xiyue once made a face cream using Chinese medicine. The complexity of it impressed Yang Rong.
It is Jin Shijia and Liu Xin's first costume drama.
